On December 18, 2020, the US EPA published its interim guidance on the destruction and disposal of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances and materials containing perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances. The guidance document discusses individual categories of PFAS containing materials as well as thermal treatment, landfill, and underground injection technologies for the destruction and disposal of PFAS and PFAS containing materials. This document is not a EPA rule or policy, and it is intended to provide guidance to those involved with the management of PFAS -containing materials with information on commercially available technologies that may be effective in facilitating the destruction or control of PFAS releases into the environment. The deadline to submit comments on the guidance is February 22, 2021.
