WTS takes pride in enhancing the environment – but we do not stop there. We’re also concerned about the communities we work in as well. We serve in our communities in the following ways:
Boys & Girls Clubs
In just about every community, an increasing number of children are without adult care or supervision and left to find their own recreation and companionship. The Boys & Girls Clubs offer support and services that promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. WTS has been involved and a major contributor since 1990, sponsoring a charitable golf tournament and auction dinner annually. For more information or to make a donation, click here.
Reading All Stars
As a co-founder of this program, WTS created Reading All Stars to help at-risk second and third graders who are struggling with reading and comprehension. The program is proven to help students achieve higher reading levels, while also offering activities that promote nutrition, socialization, physical activity and an appreciation of the arts. After the reading workshop, students participate in various activities such as music, art, character education and physical development. For more information or to make a donation, click here.
Cystic Fibrosis Steelhead Challenge
Another WTS-created program, the Lower Niagara Steelhead Challenge, is a division of the Redbone “To Catch The Cure” fishing tournaments that raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. WTS has brought the Redbone Series to its community, creating the Lower Niagara Annual Steelhead Challenge in 2008. In its first year, the program raised over $60,000 and this year over $75,000. Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic
WTS is proud to sponsor the Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children Golf Classic, a project of the Valero Energy Foundation. The tournament, held annually, raises money for children’s charities in the communities where Valero has major operations. The Valero Texas Open contributed a record total of $8.5 million in 2009 to charities, keeping this tournament among the most charitable tournaments on the PGA Tour.
